Income of Women at Risk, Report Finds |

Women are at a much higher risk than men of facing economic uncertainty
in retirement and, on average, theyll enter retirement with
considerably less savings than men. Women face these unique challenges
because they spend fewer years in the workforce, earn less income
and have longer life spans than men, according to a report released
in May 2008 by Americans
for Secure Retirement titled, "The Female Factor
2008: Why Women are at Greater Financial Risk in Retirement."

Gift to College Graduates: Financial Tips |
Top |
Graduation, for millions of college students, means its
time to trade in books and binders for bills and budgets. Virginia
CPAs offer sound
advice to help college graduates become financially independent.
The VSCPA develops monthly Money
Management articles to provide financial advice and information
for individuals and small businesses. Topics include personal
finance, retirement and estate planning, saving for college, investments,
running a small business, income taxes and more. Virginia organizations
are granted reprint permission and can use in publications, employee
newsletters, Web sites and more. Here are this month's topics:
Don't Get
Swamped by Student Loan Debt
Are you or someone in your family facing heavy student
loan debt? Recent graduates left college with an average of
$19,646 in student loan obligations. There's no reason to despair,
though, because there are several
steps that you can follow to manage weighty student
debt.
Money-Wise
Advice for New Grads
At this time of year, many recent graduates
are leaving collegiate life behind and embarking on their first
"real" careers. It is an exciting time, but it's also
a time of new financial responsibilities. If you know graduates
taking their first steps into the work world, read (and share)
these money-wise
steps to make sure recent grads start off on sound financial
footing.
Finances
for Two: Newlyweds and Money
June
is a popular time for weddings, and it's important that newlyweds
get off on the right foot as far as their finances are concerned.
A total of 84 percent of couples said that money causes arguments
in their marriages. But taking the right steps now can save
a lot of tension and disagreement later. Read some recommendations
for getting the right start financially.
Avoid Money Mishaps
When Children Move Back Home
It's graduation time, and many college graduates are returning
to live at home for the first time in several years. Because
of an uncertain economy, many young adults have decided to spend
a few years living with mom and dad until they have a stronger
financial foundation. Here are some suggestions
on how parents can deal with this situation.
Tackling
Money Concerns in Remarriage
Roughly 75 percent of those who have been divorced will ultimately
remarry, according to government statistics. Money can be a
source of tension in any relationship. Consider these five
steps that couples who are remarrying can take to preserve
harmony.
