Financial Literacy Month a HUGE success! |
Top |
Thank you to everyone who participated in Virginia
Financial Literacy Month in April 2008. The Virginia
Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) serves
as a catalyst for the month, as part of its award-winning
campaign to improve the financial health of all Virginians.
The VSCPA hopes the commemorative month, along with other
outreach activities, will continue to build awareness for
the importance of wise money management and encourage other
Virginia organizations to make a difference in financial education.
Here's a quick recap of Virginia Financial Literacy Month
2008:
-
Financial
Fitness Day: On April 26, 2008, more than 50 volunteer
CPAs manned information booths at 13 locations across the
Commonwealth. The volunteers offered resources and materials
to members of the community, passing out free Financial
Fitness calendars, calculators, tips and more.
-
Consumer
workshops: More than 50 attendees flocked to two
free VSCPA financial literacy workshops for the public:
"Exercise Your Financial Future" and "Money
Wise Women," both held at the Richmond CPA Center.
-
Media
outreach: During the month of April, VSCPA members
participated in seven interviews with television and print
media outlets to promote Financial Literacy Month activities
and provide general money management advice.
-
-
Financial
Fitness E-newsletter: Many consumers subscribed
to Financial Fitness Insider. This consumer e-newsletter,
launched April 2007, educates the public on money management
topics and contains financial resources, tips, facts and
more.

Many Adults |

As the U.S. economy slows, more and more Americans are cutting
back on spending to in order to save money, according to a recent
nationwide survey conducted by Harris
Interactive for the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Twenty-five percent of respondents in the survey of 1,026 adults
said they were spending wisely or not spending as much as a means
of saving money. This is a sharp increase from 2007, when only
2 percent said they were spending wisely or cutting spending in
order to accumulate savings.
