As if you needed more incentive to take the CPA Exam one day, now there's a special inauguration event to honor new licensees. In an exciting new partnership, the VSCPA and Virginia Board of Accountancy (BOA) held the first-ever CPA Inauguration for Virginia's newly licensed CPAs in September. Nearly 80 recent licensees and their guests gathered at the Richmond Marriott for a formal dinner, networking and some well-deserved recognition.

The VSCPA and BOA created this capstone event to conclude the process of becoming a CPA, and plan to hold the event twice each year to honor new licensees. Read more about the CPA Inauguration at www.CPAStudentZone.com.

There's no time like the present to start looking for a job, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Results from NACE's survey of last year's graduating students, which was conducted in March and April, revealed that 71 percent of responding students had either planned to or already begun looking for a full-time job after graduation. Of those who had submitted applications, 51.2 percent had a job lined up.

Many of the students who had accepted offers relied heavily on their campus career resources, according to the report, while those who were unsuccessful relied on job postings and external resources. Don't wait! Visit your campus's career center today, and learn more about last year's job search statistics at www.vscpa.com.

Accounting firms embrace new social media Top

Recently, various firms have held contests on YouTube and launched networking pages on Facebook and MySpace in order to attract accounting students and provide insight into life at their firms. Cool career idea: Consider the gaming industry! Top

With billions of dollars flowing in and out of the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas, you better believe there are some key auditors behind the scenes. Casinos and other gaming outlets rely on accountants in a big way!

If closing the day's business at 5 a.m. instead of 5 p.m., traveling and even meeting celebrities sounds like a good time to you, perhaps you'd enjoy an accounting career in the gaming industry. But with all the glamour comes a great deal of pressure to deal with fast-flowing cash.

The gaming industry may be a narrow career niche, but it represents the endless possibilities the accounting profession offers.
