That's called "Feeding the Pig," and you're about to hear a lot more about it in new TV and radio ads. The ads feature Benjamin Bankes, a piggy bank who reminds young adults to save first and spend afterwards. Benjamin's so cool, he's even got his own MySpace page. Or check him out at FeedthePig.org.

Charging tuition? Not anymore! Top

Over the past decade, it was common for both students and parents to charge college tuition to credit cards and amass free miles and other rewards. But now fewer colleges and universities across the country are accepting credit card payments for tuition, mainly due to the high merchant fees schools must pay credit card companies for each transaction. This could affect you! Right now, around a quarter of students with credit cards use them for tuition. Learn more about this trend, including alternative ways to pay.

Here's a key to landing a job Top

If there were something you could do that would give you a 70 percent chance of getting a job offer, would you do it? You're in luck! Internships are the best way to get your foot in the door — employers extend job offers to more than 70 percent of their interns, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers. And, employers plan to increase the amount of internships they offer this year by nearly 10 percent.

For a great way to find internships near you, start with the VSCPA's online internship directory, where you can search by Virginia region.

Cool career idea: Become specialized in IT Top

There's so much you can do as a CPA —- even become a computer guru! Many people who get their CPA designation don't stop there — they go on to get specializations that showcase their unique abilities and position themselves for even more success. One of those credentials, Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), allows CPAs who are information technology professionals to be recognized for their unique abilities to connect business and technology.

Some CPAs with the CITP credential work in the technology areas of different firms and businesses. Others work in accounting firms and develop the firms' IT strategy. As you begin to decide your accounting career, look at all the options that appeal to you!
