150-hour requirement update Top

As you may know, starting July 1, 2006, accounting students must complete 150 hours of accounting education before sitting for the CPA Exam in Virginia. The Virginia Board of Accountancy, the state regulatory agency that licenses CPAs, recently announced an exception for students who have completed their coursework prior to the deadline, and are simply waiting for their degree to be conferred. Learn more about this exception, including whether or not the exception applies to you.

This is NOT an exemption for all spring 2006 graduates. Any spring graduate still completing coursework in the spring of 2006 to satisfy his or her accounting degree requirements is NOT eligible to qualify under the exception.

For basic information on the 150-hour requirement, check out the VSCPA brochure "What You Need to Know About the 150-Hour Rule" (.PDF) for what's required, frequently asked questions and more.

Cool accounting field: Environmental accounting Top

If you're looking for a way to combine a love of numbers with a love of the outdoors, environmental accounting may be right for you.

Environmental management accounting was developed to recognize some limitations of conventional management accounting approaches to environmental costs, consequences and impacts. Environmental accounting is especially used to make internal business decisions for proactive environmental management activities. Gain a basic knowledge of the different facets of environmental accounting, such as environmental national accounting and environmental financial accounting (AccountingWEB). Or learn more about the increasing call for environmentalism in accounting (WebCPA).
